New Art in the New Year!

Hello...sorry it has been SO LONG since I've visited with you! So anyways, in the new year, I hope to...

* be better about blogging * try encaustic painting (I got a kit to get started!) * paint more * get out of the house more * connect with friends * take more walks * read more books * and laugh more.

Above are two pieces I created for Valentines Day. The little hearts I made from polymer clay...it was the first time I have worked with it and I really enjoyed it. I hope to work with more in the new year as well!

Farewell Cottage Cheese Ceiling...

Dear Cottage Cheese Ceiling,

It is time to bid you farewell. I cannot say that I will miss you. You always had many, many spider webs hanging from you. I cannot believe that anyone ever thought it was a good idea to place you on a ceiling, you look much better in a garbage bag in the dumpster. You lived a long life, 32 years is much longer than you should have hung around. I cannot say that I will miss you, farewell and I’m glad I will never meet you again.

Geesh...I've once again neglected my blog! Now that all the craziness of Christmas is over, hopefully I can once again get back to posting at least once a week...we shall see! I was VERY busy this year with spring, summer and holiday shows. My holiday shows were a success, especially Holiday Handmade put on each year by Fancy Tiger. I only have a few shots of my booths and I am hoping I can get those posted soon.

So not only has my blog been neglected but my etsy shops have suffered too. Today, I finally got some new goodies posted in Lani's Vintage.

Aren't those just the CUTEST little rubber critters you've ever seen? If I still had little ones, these would be staying with me to decorate the nursery! I also listed this great industrial storage cabinet.

First off...I know, I know it has been a long time since I've done a post...so sorry! I can't promise that I will be better at posting on a regular basis, but I will certainly try to be better!

A few weeks ago a darling little gal came into the gallery in Eads (Artists Of The Plains) to have a peek around. I wasn't working that day, but my wonderful friend Lil was, and she is always so kind to tell customers about my memory boxes that I make (I made 5 for her last year as Christmas gifts for her girls)! So anyways, she showed this gal and she loved them! She then contacted me about doing two custom ones for her. I just LOVE the way they turned out, here is a peek at one of them (she asked me not to post the other one, as it is a gift).

She loved them so much that she even made it her facebook profile picture! I've had lots of inquires about them now and I'm hoping I will have lots more memory boxes to make soon! Let me know if you are interested in one and I will get you a quote. :)

Often times I will have a customer ask if I take credit / debit cards and when I would tell them "no", they would then have to go hunt down an ATM to get some cash...some would return to make the purchase and some would not. We have been getting quite a lot of rain in our area this spring and fall, which is really wonderful considering we live in a farm / ranch area! The grass is tall for sure. Our Drop in the Bucket...Relief Efforts for Haiti - Jan. 21st

Kirsten and Jordan of Kojo Design's have put together what they are calling "Our Drop in the Bucket," a way of contributing to the much needed relief efforts in Haiti. They contacted me and asked if I would like to be a part of the efforts...and of course I was interested in doing my small part! In fact several shops have joined in the effort. We are all running promotions on Thursday Jan. 21st, to raise funds for Haiti (Eye Give a Hoot's promotion is running for the next couple of weeks).

Kojo Designs's - 100% of the earnings from the sales of their stationary and valentines on that day will be donated to organizations helping in Haiti.

Objects Of Affection (Me) - 100% of all sales in my shop will be donated to the relief efforts in Haiti.

He Is No Dummy - Vintage Ventriloquist Dummy - Looking For New Home

Just listed in my etsy shop Lani's Vintage.

Imagine my surprise to answer the door and find this dashing young man. There he stood all 24" of him! He told me he was tired of living in a dusty closet and had heard of the land of Etsy, where vintage treasures could find a new home! So, he set off to find the good queen Lani (me), who he had heard, could help him find this wonderful land called Etsy.

Queen Lani said she would be glad to help him find a wonderful new home, but first she would have to press his clothes. So she went about pressing his red jacket, white dickey with black bow tie (which she noticed had a slight stain), tan pants and his plaid jacket. Queen Lani also notice that he was wearing the cutest little red and black felt cowboy boots; however, one was missing the white horse felt applique. In no time his clothes were pressed and he was looking like a million bucks.

Next she had to examine him and take some photos. He was a bit shy when she told him first she would have to photograph him without his clothing, but he was willing if that was what it took to find a new home. Queen Lani did notice that he had a few seams coming undone, the two seams under his arms and a seam on his left leg. She also noticed that he was having trouble talking, as his jaw needed some repairing. He seemed worried that no one would want him with the defects that he had, but Queen Lani reassured him that there was someone who would still be willing to give him a new home.

Now that he was cleaned and photographed Queen Lani posted his information on Etsy and told him it would be no time at all and he would be meeting his new family. At this news he smiled ear to ear!

Jerry Mahoney (Dark Hair) - There are Jerry figures that with dark hair. These are usually the 24" Jerry (#2) and the 32" semi-pro version (#3). Why they have dark hair instead of orange involves several explanations/theories. One explanation given is that Juro used whatever paint they had to finish spraying figures before reloading the sprayer with red. Another possibility is that with the end of the contract with Winchell, Juro had 24" heads left over as well. The hair of these were painted black and they were sold, usually with the red jacket and tan pants that Little Ricky wore. Due to the similarity in clothing, most of the dark haired 24" Jerrys were probably sold around the time of release of Little Ricky (1967), and after the Jerry contract ended.

I have been on cloud 9. The other day I got my favorite magazine, Cloth Paper Scissors, in the mail and discovered that my soldered shadow box had been included on the cover page (pg. 74) of "Skeletons In Your Closet" Readers Challenge. I am so honored to be included among the many very talented artists who make up this wonderful magazine, and I hope that I will be included in many more issues to come!

THE LITTLE RAVEN

I printed each one on my Epson R1800 with archival inks that last a VERY long time. The raven was printed on the book page and then I added color with color pencil in four different shades teal, magenta, lime green and orange.

I am going to make these a limited addition of 14. You'd better snatch it up quick. They will come signed and numbered on the back of each print.

Each one will measure about 5" X 7". The print will come mounted on black mat board (8" X 10") with black photo corners as pictured.

**COLLECT ALL FOUR COLORS (TEAL, MAGENTA, LIME GREEN, ORANGE), THEY WOULD BE GREAT HUNG TOGETHER AS A GROUPING!

My mother-in-law found this story, and I just couldn't resist sharing it...TOO FUNNY!

You've heard about people who have been abducted and had their kidneys removed by black-market organ thieves...

My thighs were stolen from me during the night a few years ago. I went to sleep and woke up with someone else's thighs. It was just that quick. The replacements had the texture of cooked oatmeal. Whose thighs were these and what happened to mine? I spent the entire summer looking for my thighs. Finally, hurt and angry, I resigned myself to a life in jeans.

And then the thieves struck again. My butt was next. I knew it was the same gang, because they took pains to match my new rear-end to the thighs they had stuck me with earlier. But my new butt was attached at least three inches lower than my original! I realized I'd have to give up my jeans in favor of long skirts.

Two year ago I realized my arms had been switched. One morning I was fixing my hair and was horrified to see the flesh of my upper arm swing to and fro with the motion of the hairbrush. This was really getting scary - my body was being replaced one section at a time. What could they do to me next?

When my poor neck suddenly disappeared and was replaced with a turkey neck, I decided to tell my story. Woman of the world, wake up and smell the coffee! Those "plastic" surgeons are using REAL replacement body parts - stolen from you and me! The next time someone you know has something "lifted", look again - was it lifted from you?

THIS IS NOT A HOAX. This is happening to women everywhere every night. WARN YOUR FRIENDS!

P.S. Last year I thought someone had stolen my boobs.
I was lying in bed and they were gone! But when I jumped out of bed, I was relieved to see that they had just been hiding in my armpits as I slept. Now I keep them hidden in my waistband.

Thought this was to important not to pass on.

These same thieves come in my closet and shrink my clothes! How do they do it???

Here is what I think is just the perfect little paper weight. I have upcycled some really cool patterned security envelopes to make these funky glass soldered weights.

One side of the weight says "get to work" and the other reads "take a break". They measure about 2".

The perfect addition to your office or give them as a gift! They will arrive in a pretty little tin like the one pictured.

Awww...don't you just love Charles Dickens?

I created this piece by taking a picture of one of my many creepy/cute vintage bisque dolls...they are a new obsession of mine. One little lad in his tux...which was a bit tattered, I thought would be so great to print on a book page of the Copperfield story. How lucky I was to find in my book collection a vintage Readers Digest with the story!

This is number 1 in the series, so you'd better snatch it up quick. They will come signed and numbered on the back of each print. Each one will measure about 5.25" wide by 7" long.

I listed this on etsy yesterday (click here for the link) and I checked on it today and it said it only had 1 view! Goodness...I thought it was a really cute piece, what do you think of it? I would love to have your feedback as to what you think about it!

A one-of-a-kind piece that I've created and sandwiched between two pieces of archival glass and soldered. It even has a little easel attached...so just sit it on a little shelf and enjoy!

This sweet thing measures about 2 3/4" tall and 2" wide.

A Birthday Surprise...

I recently celebrated my big "30"! My husband went all out for the occasion, and I had a wonderful time. First he surprised me by taking me to eat at one of my favorite restaurants Maggiano's, and when we got there he had another surprise...my family was there! After we ate a wonderful meal we hit the road, and I had NO idea where we were going. We ended up in Estes Park at the beautiful Stanley Hotel!

You know...the one that is said to be haunted! The hotel inspired Stephen King to write his story "The Shining" after his visit.

I just love ghost stories...so this was really a dream come true to visit the hotel AND stay the night. We also went on the ghost tour the next morning which was a lot of fun. I didn't experience any ghosts...but had a great time! Have you ever experienced a ghost or been to a haunted building? I would love to hear if you have!

A new night light I've created for Valentines Day. Just listed it in my etsy shop www.objectsofaffection.etsy.com

I created this light from a collage I created on my computer and then printed the image on my HP printer. The image is encased between two pieces of glass (3" X 2.5") and then soldered (with a lead free solder). This sweet light looks really cute when lit up.
